I've been working hard to keep the television episodes close to 30 minutes and limited to three bands. It seems to me that four bands starts to be too many new faces for one episode. Recently, while wrapping up the editing for Episode #5 (which will be out soon) I could have easily left the show 45-60 minutes long by showing more of the recording sessions. Pace and length are critical issues for viewers. What are your thoughts on the length, pace and number of bands per episode?

Facial recognition is one of my biggest weaknesses, so I think you’re right on about maxing out at 3 bands. in general, my favorite shows tend to run about 40 minutes. I think it would be great to shoot for 40-45 minutes an episode. And if a band requires more time because they’re studio time was interesting, or their backstory needs more time, then why not break the formula and switch to 2 bands in that episode, or what-have-you...
I feel that the real question here is whether or not Amazon would charge a viewer (not a member of TRA) more money for a one hour episode? Regardless, one hour is a lot more post production work for you and may take away (unintentionally) some of the nuance of a more condensed 30 minute version. Extra studio time on the other hand is always a good thing as it shows more of the creative chemistry (thus the show's title) and showcases the artists' talents as well as the production crew's....especially Otto's. Just my humble opinion.
